As the first light of dawn touched the majestic Himalayas and birds greeted the morning with song, the Fishtail Trail Race began amidst the serene landscapes of Machhapuchchhre Rural Municipality, Kaski. Among the determined runners was Ms. Nitu Tamang, a dedicated staff member of Right4Children (R4C), who made an inspiring mark by securing second place in the 50 km women’s category. She completed the grueling trail in 11 hours, 47 minutes, and 24 seconds, conquering steep ascents and descents, with the race reaching its highest point at 3,700 meters above sea level in a place called Korchan.
Her achievement, earned through unwavering commitment and years of hard work, placed her alongside international participants—showcasing not just physical endurance, but also the spirit of perseverance.

But Ms. Tamang’s story doesn’t end at the finish line. With support from R4C team members—Ms. Smritee, Padam, Mr. Ramesh, Lekhnath, and many others—she advocated for a student-focused race, leading to the successful inclusion of a 10 km Inter-School Race for students aged 13–17. Thanks to their efforts and the positive response from the Machhapuchchhre Rural Municipality, 105 students from 12 R4C-supported schools participated in the race under the Right2Run project.
The results were nothing short of inspiring.
In the boys’ category, • Anup Nepali from Machhapuchchhre Secondary School took first place, completing the race in just 47 minutes. • Anil B.K. followed closely behind with a time of 48 minutes to claim second place. • Bishal Gurung and Pritam Gurung secured third and fourth places, finishing in 50 and 57 minutes respectively.
The girls proved just as formidable: • Enzeela GT blazed through the trail to claim first place with a time of 57 minutes. • Pushpa Bhandari, Soniya Nepali, and Punita Chhantyal followed closely, finishing in 58, 62, and 64 minutes respectively to round out the top four.

These achievements are a testament not only to the talent and dedication of the students but also to the guidance and mentorship of Ms. Nitu. Through Right2Run, students have found a powerful platform to grow—physically, mentally, and socially. They are now more active, less dependent on screens, and more disciplined, developing values of sportsmanship that will stay with them for life. Ms. Nitu’s journey is a beacon of inspiration, proving that one passionate individual can ignite change and inspire the next generation to aim higher, run farther, and dream bigger.
